YCC Fridays age 9-12!

The Young Choreographer’s Company!

Get in on the fun! 9-12  year olds build motor skills, grace, athleticism and confidence by moving from their own ideas, guided by a rigorous sense of creativity and responsibility to themselves and the group. Dance fundamentals from ballet, modern and post-modern styles are taught in a studio atmosphere that respects each dancer’s unique movement quality.

Dancing for 'tough guys

Yes...even BOYS!

Young Choreographers’ Company starting up again September 16! Register Now!!

Young people who love to move have ideas that come through their movement. By harnessing and directing the raw energy of their movement into forms they themselves imagine, these young people become young choreographers! The process of taking a scratch of an idea and turning it into a dance is invigorating — and children as young as eight or nine can begin to work with that process. It requires creativity, practice, persistence, a heap of self-discipline and a willingness to try new things. So, I teach these skills to young people as part of the dance-making process. Of course these are also worthy skills in their own right, but for us they are about making art.

If your 9 to 12 year old girl or boy with big ideas has an interest in self expression, loves to move, and is interested in performing, bring them to Mountain View Studio to try a Company Rehearsal/Class for free. Rehearsal Classes are Fridays, from 3:30 to 5pm.

New Adult Classes at Kleinert

walking

Dance Workshop

Tuesday and Friday Mornings 10-11:30am at The Kleinert/James Center for the Arts

Classes begin on the floor with a core and spinal warm-up, working out from center and up to standing. Standing phrases and across-the-floor work pull from ballet, modern and contemporary techniques for strengthening. Our full-out dancing will include both learning set choreography and inventing material with a focus on breath, internal phrasing and isolation of movement.
This class is geared toward teen and adult dancers with experience and interest in performing.

Moving in Space

Friday evenings 6-7pm at The Kleinert/James Center for the Arts

Classes begin with a Pilates-based warm-up and move quickly into working with guided images to build confidence and experience with creative movement. Improvisation structures will aid us in building awareness of our bodies in space and encourage us to dance with strength, grace and enjoyment. We will learn and create dances together as we progress. This class is geared toward teens and adults with or without movement experience who are not interested in the pressures of performing.
