Get in on the fun! 9-12  year olds build motor skills, grace, athleticism and confidence by moving from their own ideas, guided by a rigorous sense of creativity and responsibility to themselves and the group. Dance fundamentals from ballet, modern and post-modern styles are taught in a studio atmosphere that respects each dancer’s unique movement quality.

Young people who love to move have ideas that come through their movement. By harnessing and directing the raw energy of their movement into forms they themselves imagine, these young people become young choreographers! The process of taking a scratch of an idea and turning it into a dance is invigorating — and children as young as eight or nine can begin to work with that process. It requires creativity, practice, persistence, a heap of self-discipline and a willingness to try new things. So, I teach these skills to young people as part of the dance-making process. Of course these are also worthy skills in their own right, but for us they are about making art.

If your 9 to 12 year old girl or boy with big ideas has an interest in self expression, loves to move, and is interested in performing, bring them to Mountain View Studio to try a Company Rehearsal/Class for free. Rehearsal Classes are Fridays, from 3:30 to 5pm.

Boys must wear black jazz pants or black sweat pants and any color t-shirt. For safety and comfort: No logos, no jewelry, no fancy hair clips. NO JEANS. Class is conducted barefoot.

Dancing is a source of joy and generosity in my life. I feel this as a performer and as a teacher, with students of all ages and experience levels. I offer classes in creative movement, modern dance, and improvisation at Mountainview Studio in Woodstock, NY. I’m also available for individualized workshops at your location.

Drawing, sculpting space, and dancing are not separate to me. Since the late 1980s while still in art school, my main “project” has been developing a hybrid practice that combines and yet honors the unique characteristics of these three media.

For the last eight years, I focused on a method I call Synaesthetic Translation. This is a compositional practice in which the expressions of drawing (and sometimes sculptural installation) are translated directly into dance and/or sound. Many of the drawings shown here are just such scores for performance, though some are drawings inspired by movement and not yet used in this way. Sculptural installations always have a performative aspect, though the performer may not be pictured.

Once these visual works have served their purpose for me, they become an important part of the record of the performance, but are shown as works in their own right. For information on any particular piece you can contact Pierogi 2000 Gallery in Brooklyn, or email me directly.

I offer private and semi-private Pilates sessions on all equipment, as well as group mat classes, modern dance classes, and at-home mat privates. I teach classical Pilates informed by a keen interest in and knowledge of anatomy, and continuing education in other modalities. Privates:

$75 single session, schedule-as-you-go. A limited number of need-based, deeply discounted privates are available at my Saugerties location each week. Please inquire.

Standing appointments: 5-class prepay $350, 10-class prepay $650

Equipment Groups:

Standing appointments for two or more students at same level of instruction. $30 each, $25 each if you commit to two groups per week. Pay monthly in advance.

Mat classes: $12, or $50 for 5 consecutive classes. No make-ups.

Dance classes: $15 or 10-class prepay $140.00, 3 mo. expiration.

House Calls: by agreement, please inquire.

All classes and appointments require 24 hour  cancellation to avoid being charged. Equipment groups require 48 hours cancelation to allow adequate communication with group members.

clyde forth is an improviser, choreographer and visual artist whose creative work crosses the boundaries of dance, drawing, sculpture, video and poetry for the last twenty years. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from Bennington College and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon University. Ms. forth’s work has been presented in NYC through Movement Research, Williamsburg Art Nexus, Artists Space and Merce Cunningham Studio among others.

Recent  work and collaborations with other choreographers and composers were  presented in Woodstock NY, Baltimore MD, Washington DC, and Troy, NY. Clyde Forth Visual Theatre completed its sixth season of original work in New York City in September 2009 at Merce Cunningham Studio. Ms. forth is one of 12 international choreographers awarded a 2005 Dance Omi Residency.

She currently teaches in the Theater and Visual Arts departments at SUNY Ulster, independenttly offers dance classes and workshops for all ages, and is a Senior Instructor at The Pilates Club in Saugerties, NY.
